Help Resist Nuclear Weapons & Save our Future
Two More Wednesday Hearings at the Library, April 29 and May 6, 7-8 pm
From Kimmy Igla
“For decades, since the closure of the notorious Rocky Flats plant for environmental crimes, the United States has not produced new plutonium pits—the radioactive cores of nuclear warheads. Now, a dangerous and costly plan is underway to restart and expand their production, creating a national assembly line of risk with Kansas City as a critical node. This push, justified as “modernization,” threatens to restart nuclear testing, burden communities with forever-waste, and squander resources desperately needed elsewhere.”
From Peaceworks-
“Kansas City is actually essential to nuclear weapons production in the US. Over 80% of the mechanical and electromagnetic (non-nuclear) components for US nuclear bombs are produced right here at the Kansas City National Security Campus on Botts road (operated by Honeywell).”
“Speak out at the public hearing on May 7 and show your opposition! Or submit a written comment before July 16. EVERY comment matters! If you don’t know what to say, PeaceWorks KC will be holding educational events to help people prepare so keep an eye on this page for updates! We will be having a comment prep workshop on May 6, the evening before the hearing, with experts from environmental organizations here to help you formulate your comment. Join us on May 6 at 7pm at All Souls (4501 Walnut St) to get your questions answered and prepare for the hearing!”
These plutonium pits will be produced right in our backyard!!!
