“Conversations about Housing”
STARTS TOMORROW!!!
The Lawrence Times has published an article announcing several dates and locations where consultants would like to gather information from community members on housing needs.
The article reads-
“The City of Lawrence is asking community members to provide consultants with input about affordable housing.
The city has contracted with Greeley, Colorado-based Development Strategies to conduct a study “to better understand our community’s housing needs, how COVID-19 has reshaped our local housing market, and what strategies will ensure safe, accessible, and affordable homes over the next decade,” according to a city news release.
The consultant team will be in Lawrence Dec. 9-11, and some roundtable discussions are scheduled. No RSVPs are required, and conversations will last about an hour.
The team will share a brief project overview at the top of each hour during the upcoming conversations, which are set for the following times:
• 5 to 6 and 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9 in Meeting Room B at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.
• 8 to 9 and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 in Flory Meeting Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St.
• 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 in Meeting Room B at the library
“We want to hear from the people who know Lawrence best: our community. Your voice will help us understand what’s really happening with housing and shape solutions that make Lawrence a better place for everyone,” according to the release.
In addition, consultants are set to give a presentation about the study during the Affordable Housing Advisory Board meeting. That’s set for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at City Hall, 6 E. Sixth St. See the complete agenda at this link.
The city put out a request for proposals for the study in February. Development Strategies responded with a proposal costing $99,850. The study will be funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant CARES Act dollars that have been allocated for the project, according to RFP documentation.
